Triple R has developed and implemented
a training program for persons with serious mental illness, who
have an interest in employment within the behavioral health field.
Peers who identify themselves as consumers offer a unique and
powerful resource to persons with serious mental illness.
Referrals to the program are
solicited from the Rehabilitation Services Administration program.
TRBH offers four series of training modules annually, which includes
12 classes in a 6-week period
plus practicum. The curriculum includes an introduction to the
field of paraprofessional counseling, therapeutic skills to theories,
models of care and treatment for persons with serious mental
illness, and community support programs, issues related to co-occurring
disorders, collaboration skills, and the recover model. During
this time, students are also expected to participate in a concurrent
volunteer practicum. The
design of the program produces a sense of teamwork and camaraderie
among the students by facilitating an employment support group.
