What is a tax credit?

A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar credit agains the taxpayer's state income tax liability.

Is it a tax deduction?

No. It is a credit on your Arizona state income tax return. It is a tax deduction on your federal return.

How does it work?

You can give any amount from $25-$200 filing singly or up to $400 filing jointly. When preparing your taxes, complete Arizona form 321 and the credit is either added to the amount of your refund or deducted from what you would owe.

How does the state know I have done this?

If you participate in the tax credit with Triple R, you'll recieve a thank you and letter of receipt. Later, once 2008 Az 321 tax forms are available, we will send you one of those too!

What if I usually get a refund anyway?

Will the tax credit mess that up? Nope! If, for example, you were going to get a $500 refund and donated $400 under the tax credit- your refund climbs to $900.

What about the tax deduction?

Arizona law allows for tax credits at the state level to qualify as a deduction at the federal level. So you get the money you donated BACK as a credit AND you gain a deduction.

What if I donate to other charities (or schools)?

We're so pleased you recognize the work we do and chose to make a donation to Triple R. If you have other favorite qualifying charities as well, you can donate to them and still take advantage of the tax credit if your maximum is $200 filing singly or $400 filing jointly.

When do I have to make the donation?

You can contribute anytime during the calendar year before 12/31. While 2008 is quickly coming to an end and your bound to get busy during the holiday season... you may wish to move it to the top of your 'to do' list.
